As of March 17, 2026, the security situation in the Middle East has changed significantly due to an active and ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran. This conflict, which escalated sharply in late February 2026, has turned several previously stable tourist hubs into high-risk zones. If you are planning travel for yourself or clients, here is the current breakdown of the areas most affected: 🚫 Red Zone: Do Not Visit The following countries are currently experiencing direct military strikes, closed airspaces, or severe civil unrest: Iran: The primary site of the conflict. Massive airstrikes have targeted major cities including Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz. All travel here is strictly advised against due to active combat and the risk of arbitrary detention. United Arab Emirates (Dubai & Abu Dhabi): While usually a safe haven, the UAE has become a frequent target for retaliatory drone and missile strikes.Dubai: Recent incidents include drone debris falling near The Palm Jumeirah and disruptions at Dubai International (DXB). Abu Dhabi: Missile interceptions have occurred over residential and industrial zones (Fujairah). Lebanon: Large-scale military operations are ongoing, particularly in the south and Beirut, due to the involvement of Hezbollah. Israel & Palestinian Territories: High-frequency rocket fire and retaliatory strikes continue across the region. ⚠️ Amber Zone: Reconsider Travel (Level 3)The US State Department and other international bodies have raised travel advisories to Level 3 for these nations due to the threat of regional spillover and "misguided" missile strikes: Country Key Risks Qatar Periodic airspace closures at Doha (DOH); intercepted projectiles reported. Bahrain Significant unrest; routine consular services at the US Embassy are currently suspended. Kuwait Targeted by Iranian drones due to the presence of US military bases. Saudi Arabia Risk of strikes in the Eastern Province and Riyadh; heightened security at all borders. Oman While neutral, its proximity to the Strait of Hormuz has led to maritime incidents and occasional airspace restrictions. Crucial Logistics, Warning Aviation: Major carriers like Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad are experiencing massive cancellations and rerouting. Flights between Europe/US and Asia that normally transit through the Gulf are now taking much longer routes over Africa or Central Asia. Maritime: The Strait of Hormuz is effectively closed to commercial traffic. Cruise lines have canceled all "Jewels of the Emirates" and "Middle East" itineraries for the remainder of the 2026 season. Photography Laws: In the UAE, it is currently illegal to film or share footage of drone/missile incidents or military activity. Doing so can lead to immediate arrest.
